THE SUEZ CANAL OR THE CAPE OF GOOD HOPE?

    The Suez Canal, opened in 1869, was one of the most significant engineering projects of the 19^th Century; in addition it was a revolution for global business.

    The main advantage is that ships could travel from the Red Sea, between Africa and Asia, cutting weeks off journey; with consequent savings in fuel. For instance, it cuts a modern journey from Singapore to Rotterdam by 6480 km, saving vessel owners lots of time and lots of money.

    However, nowadays more ships are deciding to take the Cape of Good Hope route, although a vessel will take an extra eleven days to go via the Cape. Why choose? Because for two main reasons: save the steep fees for vising the Suez Canal (350€ per ship roughly) and the low price of oil. On the other hand they also make floating storage in an attempt to find the right buyer at the right time.

    To sum up, in my opinion, the Suez Canal or The Cape of Good Hope has both advantages and disadvantages; the shipping company will have to decide according to the price of oil.

IS THIS THE LORRY (BIG RIG) OF FUTURE?

          This week, in Nevada State (USA), was  tested a big rig named: "Freightliner Inspiration",  that can drive "by itself". This interesting truck was made by a german company called Daimler.

          It is fitted with a camera, radar and a device that can detect the road and traffic situation and  send the information to the autopilot system.....





     ...It isn't meant to replace the drivers completely, however, it's meant to solve the problems of fatigued and stressed driving and reduce CO2 emissions up to 5 percent.

        We know that this two elements are considered as the worst problems of road haulage...
